Welcome to Anesthesia Wiki!
I want to begin by welcoming you to this site and then start off by stating that this site will always be free now and in the future. I have zero intentions of collecting information from all the minds of the world and then profit on it. There are currently many resources we already have, some free some not but to my knowledge none that can be actively edited/added to on the fly. You can access this page anytime from anywhere including mobile phones while you're in the OR. If you are editing a page, I recommend using a computer as it will be significantly easier.
So this is a project/resource I've decided to create to help all the medical/anesthesia people around the world. I've tried to organize the left side Menu into Surgical procedures, Drug types, Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, Nerve blocks, Crisis management, and miscellaneous Cliff notes. In each of these categories, I've added thousands of pages of different elements of anesthesia all organized into categories and subcategories. You can try browsing for a topic through the menu system or simply type into the search bar if you are looking for something in particular. If a topic/page doesn't exist, you can easily add a new page to the website by clicking the hyperlink Create the page after you have searched for it. I believe with the effort of the community, we can build this resource fairly quickly with just minimal contributions from each person. What we would gain is an absolute monster database of knowledge that will always be free, ever changing, and up to date. No more asking the same questions on various forums!
A wiki style website is open to anybody and absolutely anyone can edit any page on this site. Therefore, it is important to try and keep it organized as best as possible if we as a group decide it is useful for us. Every page has areas to keep things organized with headings, subheadings, paragraphs, bullet lists, table graphs, ability to upload pictures, YouTube videos (watch video to the right if you need help). There is more than one way to skin a cat, so if you see a method that isn't exactly your style, you can edit the page and create a new heading/subheading and write your own style or add to that one. Over time, if someone is a professional in a topic and wants to contribute solely to a topic--I can assign them as administrator of that particular page/topic and both they and I will have administrative rights to how a page is edited. Once a page requires no further edits, pages can be protected and locked from any further edits and will be read-only. Every page also includes a discussion tab--this area outside of the page where we can discuss the particular page and anything related to it.
Creating/editing pages is extremely simple, especially if you have prior knowledge to using Wikipedia. Creating an account is easy, however not required. If you want credit for your edits with your name/username then simply create an account and your edits will tag your name. Any edits to a page without an account is just as simple and not limited at all but will be tagged with your IP address instead of your name. Page edits are automatically set to visual editing which is the recommended format to edit a page (it makes it easy--sort of like typing right into a Word document with powerful tools to add pictures/videos/tables). The other method of page edits is source editing and is only recommended for advanced users and really not required.
As of right now, I am a one man show. I will be monitoring any additions, contributions, edits and try to organize them if I feel they are not in the right category/page. If the idea gains traction, that is a hard task for one person to manage alone so I ask that we keep this site to facts only. This is a resource for knowledge of anesthesia so to summarize--be nice to each other and no politics.
